As an important foreign port in modern China, and influenced by the New Culture Movement and the left-wing literature and art in the 1930s, progressive literature works in Guangdong appear frequently.

The most distinctive feature of Guangdong classic literature works is that they can not only keep up with the trend of the times, but also show the local culture and customs of Guangdong, making the works more diversified. 

广东经典文学作品最鲜明的特征，就是既能跟上时代的潮流，又能展现广东地方文化和风俗习惯，让作品变得更加多元。

For example, the theme of Huang Guliu’s Story of Xia Qiu keeps up with the pace of the times. 

比如黄谷柳的《虾球传》，主题上紧跟时代步伐。

It tells how a teenager from the lower class became a soldier, highly integrating a bildungsroman with revolutionary literature, showing a pragmatic and enterprising literary character.
