From the 1950s to the 1980s, a very special form of comics called comic strips or comic books, was popular in China. It is the perfect combination of literature and painting to tell a story in hundreds of pages. 

在上世纪五十年代至八十年代间，中国流行着一种特殊的漫画形式——连环画，俗称“小人书”，它是用几百个页面讲透一个故事，使文学和绘画完美结合。

Later, many master painters associated the creation of the comic strip with regional customs, mountain geography and lifestyle, so that comic strip became a textbook of Chinese folk customs and accompanied the growth of several generations of Chinese people.

后来许多大师级画家把连环画的创作与地域风俗、山乡地理、生活方式联系起来，让连环画成为中国民俗教科书，陪伴了我国几代人的成长。
